The Bergen Pipe Band

The Bergen Pipe Band (sekkepipeband) is a registered organisation with Brønnøysund (Reg. nr. 994 656 295). The band also known as the Bergen Pipeband, changed its title after some members left to form another band.  Bergen Pipeband was formed in September 2005 by the current Pipe Major - Chris Jones, and Danish piper - Kirstine Folmann and continues to maintain a strong corps of bagpipers and drummers.  The present band re-named in September 2009 has 8 bagpipers and 3 beginner pipers learning on the practice chanter and we presently have 3 snare drummers, a base drummer and 2 of our chanter players performing as tenor drummers at gigs.  Piping and Drumming tuition takes place twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 17.00 till 20.00 at the International School of Bergen.  Additional practices take place when required.  Some former members of the original pipeband have formed another band (Bergen Pipes and Drums - with Thomas De Ridder as their Pipe Major) under the umbrella of The Bergen Scottish Society.

The band members have played at a number of high profile events including with H.M. Kongens Garde at the Lillehammerreveljen 2010, 'The Tall Ships Race 2008', Pillaguri festival in Otta, with the Greenland Whalefishers, Herremiddagen, Radio and Television (NRK, Radio 1 and TV2), International Rugby match - Norway - Denmark, weddings, funerals, parties and Julebords etc. The band also plays at its own Whisky tastings  and with Det Glade Bergen in the 17 mai parade.  The band can occasionally be seen performing at free events in and around Bergen.
